On the afternoon of 14th September, around 20 members of Stanley Ho East Asia College visited Macao Teen Challenge, a rehabilitation center for adolescent drug-abusers. This activity aimed to let participants learn about the experience and the story behind the adolescent drug abuse and the dangers of drugs.

Macao Teen Challenge is a non-profit organization, located upon a hill in Coloane. The Center first launched its service in 1989. The agency uses non-medicinal treatmentfor the recovery of the adolescent drug abuser over the span of 1-year treatment period and physical rehabilitation. These teenagers also learn how to develop better outlooks on life and participate in vocational training, making it easier for them to re-enter society later on.

During the visit, the students attended a talk about the types of drugs, drug harm and experience of adolescents within the Center. After hearing from a recoveree speaking from personal experience, students were informed how drugs would affect people and how drug addicts would feel. Then the staff offered a tour of the facility visiting the male dormitory room, bookbinding room, sculpture room, studio, library, student rooms and toilets, and so on. When asked about the passion and the dedication of the Center put into helping the users during their time there, they said that the staff had been with them every step of the way, helping them with anything that they might be going through.

Looking back on the journey, students realized as long as a person admits one’s mistakes, there is always time to change and fix them! They sincerely hope that these teens from the Centre are rehabilitated and get better to rejoin lives as healthy people.
