SHEAC Fellows Dr. Agnes Lam, Dr. Angus Lam, and Mr. Walter Wan visited a resident who is chronically ill, lacking self-care ability and dwelling in a 40-ft. cubicle room.
書院的資深導師們林玉鳳博士、林智超博士和溫日明老師探訪了行動不便、缺乏自理能力、獨自蝸居四十呎板間房的單身漢。
On Wednesday 8th October, 2014, students of Stanley Ho East Asia College participated in an exclusive activity, titled “Community Walk” event series co-organized by Oxfam and Caritas Macau. Through community visits and case interviews during the activity, participants, were expected to become more conscious of various vulnerable groups live their lives in Macau, to reflect upon how they themselves and other people perceive poverty, and to think of possible solutions to poverty alleviation.
This Community Walk comprised the following three core elements:
- Simulation tasks to experience the daily life of the vulnerable groups;
- Home visits to interact with residents of the vulnerable groups and understand their needs; and
- A debriefing session for participants to share experiences and views, and to discuss how the respective vulnerable groups can obtain support and resources in Macau.
Students tried to use a maximum of MOP10 to buy ingredients for making dinner during their subsequent visit to a single-parent family.
同學們嘗試在街市用十元購買有足夠營養的餸菜，之後在家訪的單親家庭家裡做飯。
With the assistance of Caritas, Oxfam successfully found five cases for the home visits, including a single-parent family, homeless scavengers, a chronically-ill unemployed man, and a newly immigrated family of nine who lived in a privately-rented 200 sq. ft. flat. The participants of SHEAC were divided into five groups, each visiting these five different cases to listen to their stories and the social problems behind these stories.
Led by colleagues of Oxfam and Caritas, as well as SHEAC Resident Fellow Sancia and Administrative Officer Markus, the student participants took part in various simulation activities, for example, picking up and selling cardboards, buying ingredients for dinner with sufficient nutrients with merely MOP10, summarizing statistics on food enough for one week to be collected at Centro do Servico de Fornecimento Temporario de Alimentos da Caritas. After the simulation activity and case interviews, the participants discussed their experiences in groups and shared with others about their understanding of different situations of vulnerable groups in Macau.
Through this Community Walk, every student has strong experience that prompted their renewed understandings of poverty. Some of them realized that poverty is not only related to substance but also to spirit. Some were impressed by the optimistic attitude for life of the residents of the vulnerable groups. Some have become aware that it is not only the government who should offer help to the vulnerables, each of us are able to provide help to people in need.
Students were trying to collect and sell cardboards to earn money as a simulation task for them to experience the life of street scavengers.

This Community Walk activity ended in success. However, we hope that the general public can gain a deeper understanding of the situations of the vulnerable groups, and become more concerned about local poverty.

In addition, Oxfam will organize a public session of the Community Walk on Saturday 25th October from 3pm to 6pm, anyone over 18 years old is welcome to join to experience and visit the other five cases of vulnerable groups. This aims to offer a invaluable opportunity for the public to think from different perspectives about the local poverty issue. On Sunday 26th October, Stanley Ho East Asia College, with the assistance of Oxfam and Caritas, will invite those case residents and other people of the various vulnerable groups in the local community to visit the new campus of UM and SHEAC, and enjoy some fun activities at the College.

澳門社區深度遊 —（重新）認識貧窮
2014年10月8日樂施會、澳門明愛和何鴻燊東亞書院共同舉辦了社區深度遊的系列活動之一 — Community Walk。該活動讓同學們通過接觸社區和個案訪談，嘗試瞭解弱勢群體如何在澳門生活，並反思自己和他人是如何看待貧窮，以及思考可能幫助脫貧的方法。
Students went to different property agencies and tried to look for accommodation that might be affordable by homeless people with very limited income.
同學們去了該區不同的地產代理，並試圖為只有非常有限收入的流浪者尋找他們可能負擔得起的住宿。
當天社區深度遊活動包括以下三個核心元素：
1. 模擬任務，體驗弱勢群體的生活;
2. 家訪，與弱勢群體的居民互動，並瞭解他們的需求;
3. 在社區活動結束之後進行一個匯報總結，分組討論及分享感受，認識相應的群體在澳門如何獲得支持或分配到資源。
在明愛協助下，樂施會成功探訪包括領取一人援助金的二人家庭、依靠拾荒為生的露宿者、居住在鐵皮屋長期病患的失業漢、一家九口租用二百呎私人單位的新來澳家庭等五個貧窮個案。書院的參加者被分為五組，探訪和瞭解這些不同的弱勢群體。
10月8號下午兩點，何鴻燊東亞書院的學生在書院導師Sancia與書院辦公室人員Markus的帶領下，一行二十人從澳門大學出發來到各自的集合地點——中葡職業技術學校、關閘和青洲房屋局。之後幾個小組開始了各自的體驗活動及家訪。有小組去撿拾紙皮、有小組嘗試用十元購買有足夠營養的晚餐餸菜、有小組整理領取明糧坊一周食材份量等。同學們在接觸社區和進行了個案訪談後到YMCA青年社區中心集合進行活動討論及分享感受。

在此次的社區活動中，大家都感觸頗深，對貧窮有了新的認識。一些同學認識到心靈的匱乏也是一種貧窮；一些同學被弱勢群體積極樂觀的人生態度深深折服；一些同學意識到能為弱勢群體出分力的不僅僅只有政府機關，我們每個個體也能為弱勢者提供幫助。本次活動圓滿結束，希望公眾們能深入了解弱勢處境，關注本地貧窮問題。

10月26日（週日）何鴻燊東亞書院亦將通過樂施會和澳門明愛，邀請曾於八號訪問過的居民及社區內的其他長者和家庭前來我們澳大新校園以及書院，享受半天的參觀和同樂活動。
